KISS: Why simple product photography matters
Why brands need product images
New customers!
Of course your fans are going to find your products on the shelves. But to everyone who’s new, it’s always a good brand intro to give two quick FAQs:
This is what we look like.
This is how you get it.
Show off your design
It takes a lot of design skill to create the right packaging. It’s packaging your product with the constraints of successful shipping and shelf-life, all while infusing your brand.
Simple photos allow that skill to shine through, instead of getting lost in more complex backgrounds and props.
My favorite product image tips:
Get it in focus. Use a high aperture, f/11 or above. You may need focus-stacking depending on dimensions and angles.
Light it up. Show off the different sides with your light and reflectors.
Choose the right perspective. Product photography is taking something 3D, and making it 2D, so it’s essential to get the right perspective so things don’t look wonky.
Depending on your number of products, combine product photos with a content shoot. That way you get more assets from a shoot day.
